The Plumb Line

Terms of Use

Effective date: September 17, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and JATA Ventures LLC, a Michigan limited liability company doing business as Plumb Line Leaders ("Plumb Line," "we," "us," or "our"). They govern your access to and use of plumblineleaders.com and Plumb Line's assessment, reports, organization, practitioner, network, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By creating an account, purchasing or administering access, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into this agreement. The Service is intended for adult ministry leaders, coaches, practitioners, boards, churches, ministries, and related organizations.

2. What Plumb Line Is—and Is Not

Plumb Line is an interior health reflection and conversation tool intended to help ministry leaders see patterns, consider areas of strength or strain, and engage in thoughtful dialogue with people they choose.

Plumb Line is not medical care, mental-health care, counseling, psychotherapy, crisis care, diagnosis, treatment, legal advice, or professional fitness evaluation. It does not diagnose any medical or psychological condition and is not a substitute for a qualified physician, mental-health professional, counselor, attorney, or other licensed professional.

If you are in crisis, fear that you may harm yourself or another person, or need urgent medical or mental-health assistance, contact emergency services or an appropriate crisis resource immediately. Do not rely on the Service for emergency support.

Assessment results are based on self-reported responses and a defined scoring model. They are not guarantees, clinical findings, or comprehensive statements about a person's character, calling, health, performance, or future outcomes. Results should be interpreted with humility, context, and appropriate human conversation.

3. Appropriate Organizational Use

The Service is designed to support reflection, formation, coaching, and constructive conversation. It has not been represented as a validated employment, clinical, credentialing, risk-prediction, or fitness-for-ministry instrument.

Organizations, networks, boards, coaches, and practitioners must not use a Plumb Line result as the sole basis for hiring, firing, compensation, discipline, credentialing, ordination, mandatory leave, reporting, or another materially adverse decision. They are responsible for obtaining appropriate consent, using qualified judgment, complying with employment and other applicable laws, and considering information beyond the assessment.

No coach, board member, practitioner, organization, network, or other user may pressure another person to share results by falsely representing that sharing is technically required or confidential from roles that the Service identifies as having access.

4. Accounts and Security

You agree to provide accurate account information, keep it reasonably current, protect your credentials, and promptly notify us of suspected unauthorized use. You are responsible for activity through your account unless caused by our breach of these Terms or applicable law.

Accounts are personal and may not be transferred or shared unless the Service expressly supports a shared organizational role. You may not attempt to access another person's account or information without authorization.

We may require password resets, suspend access, or take other reasonable steps to protect the Service or its users.

5. Assessment Data, Sharing, and Access

The Privacy Policy explains how information is collected and handled. The following access rules are especially important:

You are responsible for reviewing the identity and role of a recipient before sharing. A recipient must use shared assessment information respectfully, only for an authorized purpose, and in compliance with applicable law and any separate confidentiality duties.

6. Organizations, Networks, Coaches, Boards, and Practitioners

Organizational administrators are responsible for maintaining accurate rosters, assigning appropriate roles, removing access when roles change, and ensuring that invitations are sent to the correct people.

An organization's purchase of access does not make Plumb Line the organization's employer, counselor, fiduciary, ministry supervisor, or agent. Plumb Line does not control the independent conduct, advice, confidentiality practices, or decisions of organizations, networks, coaches, board members, or practitioners.

Unless Plumb Line expressly agrees otherwise in writing, each organization is responsible for its own legal basis, notices, permissions, policies, and internal safeguards when inviting people, encouraging assessment participation, receiving shared results, or using information from the Service.

7. Purchases, Subscriptions, and Billing

Paid access may be offered to organizations, practitioners, networks, or other customers. Pricing, billing interval, included features, renewal terms, and any purchase-specific conditions shown at checkout or in an order form are incorporated into these Terms. If an executed order form conflicts with these Terms, the order form controls for that purchase.

Payments are processed by Stripe. You authorize the applicable charges and agree to provide accurate billing information. You are responsible for applicable taxes other than taxes imposed on Plumb Line's net income.

If a purchase is recurring, it will renew according to the interval and terms disclosed at checkout or in the applicable order form until canceled. To ask about billing, cancellation, or an incorrect charge, contact hello@plumblineleaders.com. Cancellation ends future renewal and does not by itself delete user accounts or assessment information. Refund rights, if any, are governed by the checkout disclosure, applicable order form, and applicable law.

We may change pricing or plan features prospectively. We will provide notice required by law before a pricing change applies to a renewing subscription.

8. Permitted Use

Subject to these Terms and applicable payment obligations, Plumb Line grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for its intended internal or personal purpose.

You may not:

9. Intellectual Property

The Service—including its assessment questions, framework, domains, scoring logic, reports, writing, visual design, software, trademarks, and other content—is owned by Plumb Line or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer ownership to you.

You retain rights you may have in information you submit. You grant Plumb Line a limited license to host, process, reproduce, and display that information only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, maintain, and provide the Service, honor sharing you authorize, comply with law, and enforce these Terms.

Plumb Line does not currently use participant assessment responses to publish research or benchmarking reports. Before introducing that program, Plumb Line will provide clear notice and any consent or choice required by applicable law. Plumb Line may then create and use aggregated or de-identified information that is eligible under the disclosed participation model to analyze trends, improve the Service, develop benchmarks, and produce reports or educational resources, as described in the Privacy Policy. These uses will not include publishing information reasonably intended to identify an individual participant.

You may download or print your own report for personal reflection and authorized conversation. That permission does not include publishing assessment questions, scoring methods, or substantial portions of proprietary reports; building derivative or competing products; or removing ownership notices.

If you provide suggestions or feedback, you permit us to use them without restriction or compensation, provided we do not publicly identify you as the source without permission.

10. Availability and Changes

We aim to provide a useful and reliable Service, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or permanently available access. We may maintain, modify, add, remove, or discontinue features. We will use reasonable efforts to provide notice if a material change significantly affects paid access, subject to urgent security, legal, or operational needs.

Beta, preview, or developing features may be changed or withdrawn and may contain errors.

11. Third-Party Services

The Service depends on third-party services for functions such as authentication, databases, hosting, email, payments, and content delivery. Your use of some third-party services may also be subject to their terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for independent third-party websites, services, people, or organizations that we do not control.

12. Suspension and Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. You may request account deletion by contacting hello@plumblineleaders.com. Subscription cancellation and data deletion are separate actions.

We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you have materially violated these Terms, failed to pay amounts due, created a security or legal risk, misused another person's information, or used the Service in a way that may harm users or Plumb Line. When reasonable, we will provide notice and an opportunity to cure before termination, but we may act immediately for security, safety, legal, or abuse-prevention reasons.

Upon termination, the right to use the Service ends. Provisions that by their nature should survive—including those concerning intellectual property, payment obligations, disclaimers, limitations, indemnity, disputes, and general terms—will survive.

13. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." PLUMB LINE DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND QUIET ENJOYMENT.

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT RESULTS WILL BE COMPLETE OR ERROR-FREE; THAT THE SERVICE WILL MEET EVERY USER'S OR ORGANIZATION'S NEEDS; OR THAT ANY PARTICULAR CONVERSATION, LEADERSHIP, MINISTRY, EMPLOYMENT, RELATIONSHIP, HEALTH, OR OTHER OUTCOME WILL RESULT FROM USE OF THE SERVICE.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some exclusions may not apply to you.

14. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PLUMB LINE AND JATA VENTURES LLC, TOGETHER WITH THEIR MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AND AGENTS, WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY, OR BUSINESS; OR DECISIONS OR ACTIONS TAKEN BY AN ORGANIZATION, BOARD, COACH, PRACTITIONER, NETWORK, EMPLOYER, OR OTHER USER.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT PAID TO PLUMB LINE FOR THE SERVICE GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM DURING THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO LIABILITY OR (B) $100.

These limits apply regardless of the legal theory and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. They do not limit liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for intentional misconduct where applicable.

15. Indemnification by Organizational Customers

To the extent permitted by law, an organization, network, practitioner business, or other entity using the Service agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless JATA Ventures LLC and its members, managers, employees, contractors, and agents from third-party claims, damages, and reasonable costs arising from that entity's unlawful use of the Service; its unauthorized disclosure or misuse of assessment information; its employment, credentialing, disciplinary, or ministry-governance decisions; or its material violation of these Terms.

This section does not require an individual participant to indemnify Plumb Line merely for taking an assessment or exercising privacy rights.

16. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any judicial proceeding arising out of these Terms or the Service must be brought in a state or federal court with jurisdiction in Michigan, and each party consents to personal jurisdiction and venue there, except where applicable consumer law requires otherwise.

Before filing a claim, you and Plumb Line agree to make a good-faith effort to resolve it informally by providing written notice and allowing 30 days for discussion. Send notices to hello@plumblineleaders.com. This informal process does not prevent either party from seeking urgent injunctive relief or complying with a legal deadline.

These Terms do not include a mandatory arbitration clause or class-action waiver.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service or law changes. We will post revised Terms with a new effective date. If a change materially reduces rights or adds material obligations for an existing paid customer, we will provide additional notice as required by law. Continued use after the effective date of revised Terms constitutes acceptance, except where law requires another form of consent.

18. General Terms

These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and any applicable order form constitute the agreement concerning the Service. If any provision is unenforceable, it will be modified only to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain effective. A waiver must be in writing and does not waive future enforcement. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent; we may assign them as part of a merger, reorganization, financing, sale, or transfer of the Service. There are no third-party beneficiaries unless expressly stated.
